IUB’s Walidad Cheema Faces Defeat in General Elections, Rubbing salt into Teachers’ wounds

Amidst discussions about the previous year’s IUB Scandal involving mass rapes, drugs, abductions, and human trafficking, Walidad Cheema lost in the elections for Yazman National Assembly Constituency NA-165 and PP-247.

Walidad’s father, Tariq Bashir Cheema, was the National Assembly candidate for NA-165 (Yazman City). Following the scandal, Cheema, in a press conference, distanced his son from the accusations, portraying it as a conspiracy against his political career and reputation, while also defending the Islamia University’s innocence.

The status of the case remains unclear after a reported closure by Lahore High Court’s Justice Sardar Muhammad Sarfraz Dogar, but our sources could not verify its authenticity. Whether it is misinformation or a misleading report is uncertain.

Competing against PTI’s Hakim Ali Randhawa, PMLN’s Ch Khalid Mehmood Jagga, and Jamaat-e-Islami’s Ch Irfan Anjum, Walidad Cheema, an independent candidate, faced defeat in his first-ever elections. Meanwhile, Tariq Bashir Cheema secured victory in NA-165, defeating PML-N’s Saud Mujeed and PTI’s Basharat Ali.

In the Provincial Assembly elections, Ch Khalid Mehmood Jagga (PMLN) triumphed over Cheema with a margin of 10,000 votes. Walidad’s loss disappointed educationalists who had hoped for a victory that might have offered relief from the shadows of the IUB Scandal and BISE Bahawalpur Corruption Scandal.
