Yet another controversy begins involving Malala in Pakistan. Netizens have been trolling current Government and their new initiative regarding girls’ education in Pakistan. Government has invited Malala Yousafzai, Nobel Peace Prize holder, as a state guest for two days to join the conference regarding women’s education.
It is worth noting that Schools in Pakistan have been closed since weeks while the government, instead of resolving issues, is using short cuts to maintain a good image globally. Malala’s paid visit could be a tactic by the government to divert public’s attention from issues related to the internet blockage, schools closure, and more.
While talking on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), a user @MhmdNqyb76541 reminded the victim Aafia Siddiqui, calling the entire conference a propaganda. Some users highlighted that Aafia too was a student in the USA, a country which’s now advocating girls’ education, who refused all sorts of accessibility and court trials for her.
Pakistan is hosting a 2-day summit on Girls’ Education in Islamabad on 11th and 12th January. Over 150 guests were invited from Islamic countries. As per early updates, around 12 countries have refused the invitation citing doubts on the objectives.
Prime Minister of Pakistan, Mian Shahbaz Sharif, will inaugurate the summit with welcome note. All countries are expected to sign a declaration to be named Islamabad Declaration. Netizens are raising questions on such a declaration as if already available UN Charter was not enough. Government could rather have built a Women’s university rather than wasting the budget on such a summit.
Even in the past, hundreds of such summits have been hosted with almost no positive outcomes. Such conferences are used as an excuse to hide the corruption.
