In the ongoing Champions One-day Cup, a domestic tournament in Pakistan, Stallions faced Dolphins team in the 7th match. Before this, Stallions had won 1 match and got defeated in the second. While, Dolphins had lost both of the matches.
Stallions captain Muhammad Haris won the toss and opted to bat first seeing the result of last 6 matches, the team batting first always gets the advantage at the end.
Shan Masood and Yasir Khan starting the innings with a decent 70+ partnership. After that, Shan Masood 34 (36) and Yasir Khan 46 (58) got out. Babar Azam then built a 50-run partnership with Tayyab Tahir. But wickets kept falling throughout overs. Only Babar could stay at the crease.
Babar’s quick knock in the last few overs turned the table. At one stage, the expected total was around 230-240 which later rose to 271 unexpectedly.
Babar smashed the century in 99 balls and remained Not Out at 104* (100). It was Babar’s 30th List-A ton. He also became the fastest batter to score 30 List-A centuries. He achieved this milestone in just 180 innings, breaking yet another record of Virat Kohli.
Dolphins, under the captaincy of Saud Shakeel and mentorship of Sarfraz Ahmed, could not execute the bowling plan perfectly. They used six bowlers, each of them took 1 wicket.
While chasing the target of 272, Dolphins lost their first wicket on a duck. Jahandad Khan and Mehran Mumtaz took 3 wickets each. Haris Rauf managed to bring down 2 wickets.
Dolphins team could not survive the bowling attack. Wickets kept falling too fast and got all team out at just 97 runs. Sahibzada Farhan 32 (36) and Asif Ali 21 (28) were the top scorers from Dolphins.
Babar Azam got ‘Man of the match‘ award for his brilliant hundred. Stallions defeated the opponent by 174 run.
